Dante Alighieri (1265-1321) was an Italian poet and the founder of modern Italian language. He was one of the pioneers of the European Renaissance, and the greatest poet of the Italian Renaissance, one of the greatest poets of the west, and he is also one of the most studied in high school by Italian students. He was known for his long-poem The Divine Comedy that is divided into three parts: “Hell”, “Purgatory”and “Heaven”.. The Divine Comedy denounces church rules by recounting a dream that Dante had “In the middle of his life”, but remains theological. The poet describes how he lost his way in the dark forest in the early hours of the Easter morning of 1300, when leopards, lions andwolfs - symbols of lust, power and greed - blocked his way. At a critical juncture, appeared the ancient Roman poet Virgil, and he was asked to come to the aid of a young woman whom Dante had fallen in love with. Virgil leads Dante through the hell of punishing sinful souls, through the purgatory of remorseful souls, and finally Beatrice leads him through the nine heavens that make up heaven before he finally reaches God. By this time Dante had come to hissenses, his mind was in harmony with God’s mind, and the whole poem came to anabrupt end.
In addition to the Divine Comedy, Dante wrote other works, including “The Anthology of Poetry”, “The New Life”, “The linguistic poetics”, “The Analects”, “The Philosophical Theology”, “The feast” and “The theory of monarchy”. "The new life" consists of thirty-one lyric poems, which are mainly devoted to Beatrice.
Each year, Italy commemorates Dante’s Day on March 25, and many events are scheduled to mark the 700th anniversary of the death of the poet Dante. On March 25th commemorations began across a lot of foreign countries, including Florence, where Dante was born, Verona, where he lived, and Ravenna, where he lived in his later years.
